Rauf Salahodzhaev, a lecturer at Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT), has been named one of the world’s top 100 young economists by RePEc (Research Papers in Economics).
The ranking, released on February 14, 2017, marks the first time a representative from Uzbekistan has been included in this prestigious list. Salahodzhaev ranks 32nd globally and is the only representative from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) within the top 50. Besides him, only two other Asian economists — from India and Japan — are featured in the top 50.
Rauf Salahodzhaev earned his Master’s degree in Economics from the State University of New York in 2012 as a Fulbright Scholar. Since 2013, he has been teaching Macroeconomics at WIUT and serving as a senior research fellow at the Institute for Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan.
His academic research focuses on the role of intellectual capital and market institutions in the economic development of countries and nations. He is among the few scholars studying a new branch of macroeconomics known as the “deep determinants of economic growth.” His work has been published in respected academic journals such as Intelligence, Kyklos, Environmental Research, and others, and has been recognized by Forbes and National Policy.
In the past two years alone, Salahodzhaev has published 15 articles in journals indexed by Web of Science. He is also a member of the International Society for Intelligence Research (USA).
RePEc, coordinated by the Research Division of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, monitors the academic output of over 50,000 economists worldwide. Its rankings are based on factors such as article citations and the academic reputation of the journals in which the works are published.
